Seven Bruin Women & Two Relays Notch Wins At UCLA Invitational

The Bruin women's track and field team started off the outdoor season on a high note as they tallied seven individual event wins and two relay titles at the UCLA Invitational on Saturday. UCLA also picked up four NCAA Regional qualifying marks by Nicole Leach, Rhonda Watkins, Renee Williams and Tara Ross during the meet.
Ross opened up the meet with a huge performance as she threw nearly a 10-foot lifetime-best in the javelin. She won the event with a regional mark of 162-9 and was nearly 30 feet better then her nearest competitor.
Leach, competing in the 800m instead of her usual events, ran a regional qualifying time in the two-lap event to win the event in a time of 2:09.61.
In the long jump, Watkins returned to her winning ways and posted a regional qualifying mark of 20-11.75. Williams also posted a regional mark, winning the triple jump with a leap of 41-9.75.
Also posting wins on Saturday were the 4x100m relay (46.16) and 4x400m relay (3:44.58) teams of Leach, Chanelle Curry, Joy Eaton and Jolanda Diego (46.16). Lindsay Rowe won the 100m hurdles (14.06), Chanelle Curry was first in the 400m hurdles (1:03.56) and Claire Rethmeier won the 2 mile (10:41.59).
Up next for the Bruins in the outdoor season will be the CSUN Invitational next weekend.
