Stuart Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Freshman shortstop Morgan Stuart has been named the Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week as announced by Commissioner Tom Hanson today.
Stuart earned MVP honors at the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament in Hawaii after hitting .526 with five runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and a tournament-best 12 runs batted in. She helped the Huskies to a 6-0 record, including two wins over then-No.15 Hawai'i, and the tournament title.
In Washington's tournament opening 4-0 win over Eastern Kentucky, Stuart hit 2-for-3 with a double. She then hit a three-run home run in the first inning against Idaho State, as the UW won 11-3 in five-innings.
Against Southern Illinois on Saturday, Stuart drove in four runs on a pair of two-RBI singles and then later had an RBI in the Huskies 3-2 win over No. 15 Hawai'i.
On Sunday, Stuart belted a two-run home run and had three RBI to lift the Huskies past SIU, 9-0, and into the title game. In the championship game against No. 15 Hawai'i, Stuart went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the UW won 8-6.
Over the six games she raised her batting average by 97 points, from .225 to .322. For the season she has six doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI.
This is the first weekly honor this season for a Husky player and the 61st time in history that a Husky has been named either the Pac-10 Player or Pitcher of the Week.
