Washington's Stuart, UCLA's Selden Named Pac-10 Player and Pitcher of the Week

WASHINGTON'S MORGAN STUART NAMED PAC-10 SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON freshman Morgan Stuart has been named the Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week for March 4-10, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Stuart, a Riverside, Calif. native, was named the MVP of the Malahini Kipa Aloha Tournament after leading the Huskies to a 6-0 record while hitting .526 with two home runs and 12 runs batted in.
Consistency was the story of the week for Stuart, who had an RBI in five out of the six games, as she hit two doubles and two home runs. Against Idaho State, Stuart hit a three-run home run in the first inning to ignite an 11-3 victory for the Huskies. On Saturday, Stuart drove in four runs on a pair of two-RBI singles against Southern Illinois and followed that performance with an RBI in Washington's win over No. 15 Hawai'i.
In the championship game of the tournament, a rematch with No. 15 Hawai'i, Stuart went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. She raised her batting average 97-points over the weekend, from .225 to .322.
The Huskies take a road trip a short way south as they head to the Cascade Clash in Portland, Ore. this week to face Northern Illinois, Mississippi Valley State, and Utah State twice.
This is the first career Player of the Week honor for Stuart and the 60th all-time for the Huskies.

UCLA'S ANJELICA SELDEN NAMED PAC-10 SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA senior Anjelica Selden has been named the Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for March 4-10, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Selden, a Vacaville, Calif. native, threw 22 scoreless innings this week, striking out 31 batters and winning a trio of games against UNLV, No. 24 Virginia Tech, and Long Beach State. Selden has thrown 26 consecutive scoreless innings and has not allowed a run in 39 1/3 innings.
The senior opened the week with a pair of one-hitters as she shutout UNLV and No. 24 Virginia Tech. Selden fanned 13 Rebels and seven Hokies, allowing just three base runners in the two games on two singles and a walk. She continued her domination against Long Beach State in her third 1-0 victory of the week, striking out 11 in the extra-inning contest.
Selden improves to 12-1 on the season with a 0.80 earned run average. She has 75 strikeouts in her last 43 innings and 136 strikeoutss on the year.
The Bruins (24-2) have finally jumped near the top of both polls as they moved from No. 6 in the USA Today/NFCA poll to No. 3 while they remain second in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25. This week, they host a pair of Big West opponents in Cal State Fullerton, Wed. March 12 and Cal State Northridge before taking 12 days off.
This is Selden's ninth career Pitcher of the Week honor and the 103rd all-time for UCLA. Fellow Bruin Donna Kerr took home the award last week and Selden garnered the accolade two weeks ago.
