Yoon Ties For Third At UNLV Spring Invite, Shoots Career-Best 67

March 12, 2008

BOULDER CREEK, Nev. - Washington sophomore Christina Yoon shot a career-best 5-under 67 in the final round of the UNLV Spring Invite at Boulder Creek Golf Club, Wednesday, to finish the three-day tournament in a tie for third.

Yoon's career-best third-place finish comes on the heels of a fourth-place finish at last week's Spartan Invitational. She finished the UNLV Spring Invite at 4-under 212 overall, after carding scores of 2-over 73 and even-par 72 in the first two rounds. Her 5-under 67 missed matching Washington's record for an 18-hole round by just two shots. Dodie Mazzuca holds the Husky school record of 65 set in 1997.

Despite Yoon's career day, the Huskies fell back to finish 10th in the team standings. Washington shot 10-over 298 in the final round and ended up 24-over 888 overall.

Yoon's final round saw her sink six birdies - four on the front nine - and just one bogey. She ended up in a tie with BYU's Jade Bollinger, as the duo finished just two shots behind runner-up Urika van Niekerk from Texas Tech (6-under 210). Oregon's Cathryn Bristow won medalist honors at 8-under 208.

Washington State and BYU shared the team title, finishing at 5-under 859. Oregon and Texas Tech tied for third (5-over 869).

UW freshman Anya Alvarez tied for 25th after shooting a final round score of 2-over 74. She ended up 4-over 220. Rounding out the Husky lineup, freshman Nicole Ferrero tied for 56th (12-over 228), sophomore Molly Aronsson tied for 68th (16-over 232) and freshman Katie Saucier placed 79th (19-over 235).

Up next for the Huskies will be the Oregon Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore., March 24-25.
