Viva Espana! Men's Soccer Travels To Spain

March 13, 2008

STANFORD, Calif. - During spring break, most college students flock to the warm, sandy beaches of Mexico or Florida for the weather and the nightlife. Others simply go home for some rest and relaxation, but few will get the once-in-a-lifetime experience that the Stanford men's soccer team will have as they travel to Spain for an eleven day excursion from March 21 to March 31.

As the NCAA allows teams to take one international trip every four years, the Cardinal will be spending their Spring Break in the European nation for business and pleasure, and also a little mixing of the two. They will get the chance to play soccer, see the sights and absorb the culture of Spain, as well as attend two professional soccer matches.

On the business side of things, the schedule remains tentative, but Stanford will train and play four games against local opponents. The games will prepare the Cardinal for when they return home and begin their five-game spring season.

Stanford will also be able to view some of the best players in the world ply their trade at professional soccer games of the Primera División in the Liga de Fútbol Profesional, known as 'La Liga' for short. The league is the highest level of soccer in Spain and often considered one of, if not the best, leagues in the world. The Cardinal will be attending FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol matches.

During the trip, be sure to visit goStanford.com as nine of this year's freshmen will be blogging on their experience. Each of the freshman will get one day of the trip to recount their tales as they experience them.
