Ross Humes Named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week

March 18, 2008

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State junior left-hander Ross Humes has been named Pacific-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week for March 11-17, conference commissioner Tom Hansen announced, Tuesday.

A native of Federal Way, Wash., Humes logged seven shutout innings during the week. Wednesday, March 12, he made his first start since 2006 and blanked No. 15 Wichita State for five innings, but received no decision in a 6-4 Cougar loss.

At No. 25 Oklahoma, Saturday, March 15, Humes notched a save in both ends of a doubleheader as the Cougars won 5-3 and 8-5. He is the first WSU hurler to pick up two saves in a day since Reed Rainey accomplished the feat against Central Washington, March 3, 1985.

This season, Humes is 1-0 with four saves and has logged 14-shutout innings. He has struck out 13 and given up two walks and seven hits. It is the second-straight season Humes has received the honor and the 30th selection all-time for WSU.
