Cal Volleyball Announces 2008 Schedule

California volleyball head coach Rich Feller announced the 2008 schedule today. The Golden Bears will host two fall tournaments in the upcoming season. St. John's and UC Santa Barbara will come to Berkeley for the Cal Molten Classic the weekend of August 29-31, followed by visits from James Madison, DePaul and UC Riverside for the Golden Bear Invitational from Sept. 5-6.
The Bears will then travel to the Midwest to take on Big 10 powerhouse Minnesota in the Diet Coke Classic Volleyball Tournament from Sept. 12-14 at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis, Minn. Returning to California, the Bears will make the trek down south to face Central Connecticut State, San Francisco and Cal State Fullerton at the Fullerton Invitational.
Following the four tournaments, the Bears open Pac-10 play with Oregon and Oregon State at Haas Pavilion Friday, Sept. 26, and Sunday, Sept 28 respectively. The Bears' schedule includes seven teams that made appearances in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, five of which advanced to regional semifinal matches.
Last season, Cal made history by winning the NCAA Tournament Wisconsin Regional to advance to the Championship semifinal in Sacramento, Calif. The Bears set records in total team blocks and completed the season with a 26-8 overall record, 12-6 in the Pac-10 Conference.
