CRESWELL, Ore. - Washington freshman Tze Huang Choo is tied for fifth place at 1-over 145, leading the Husky men's golf team after two rounds at the Oregon Duck Invitational, Monday.
Washington sits in eighth place heading into Tuesday's final round at 19-over 595. The Huskies opened the day shooting 16-over 304, but rebounded with a much-improved 3-over 291 second round score.
Choo is on his way to his best performance as a Husky thus far, carding a 2-over 74 in the morning round before shooting 1-under 71 in the afternoon round. The UW freshman from Singapore still has a ways to go to catch leader TJ Bordeaux of Pacific, though, as Bordeaux leads the field at 8-under 136.
The Huskies have one other player in the top-25 with junior John Wise tied for 23rd at 5-over 149. Wise shot scores of 2-over 74 and 3-over 75 on Monday. Behind Choo and Wise are sophomore Nick Taylor who is tied for 33rd (7-over 151), sophomore Darren Wallace who is tied for 37th (8-over 152) and senior Zach Bixler who is tied for 49th (11-over 155).
Taylor, Wallace and Bixler all tallied better second round scores than first, led by Taylor's nine-stroke improvement after carding an 8-over 80 in the morning and a 1-under 71 in the afternoon.
Husky freshman Kevin Spooner is also competing as an individual. He stands in a tie for 62nd at 22-over 166.
