Huskies Finish Sixth, Wise Ninth At Oregon Duck Invite

CRESWELL, Ore. - Washington men's golf shot a final round score of 9-over 297 to finish in sixth place at the 20th annual Oregon Duck Invitational held at the Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell, Ore., Tuesday.
The Huskies culminated the 54-hole tournament at 28-over 892, six shots behind Arkansas and Pacific which tied for fourth. UW made up some ground during the final 18 holes after starting the day in eighth place on the team leaderboard.
San Diego State took home the team title, finishing at 9-over 873. Oregon State and host Oregon were the runners-up (20-over 884).
Washington junior John Wise led the Husky contingent during the final round, carding a 1-under 71. Wise finished in a tie for ninth place at 4-over 220, his best finish of the season and second career top-10 standing. He carded scores of 2-over 74 and 3-over 75 during the first two rounds and his 1-under 71 on Tuesday equaled the low round of the tournament for any Washington player.
The Huskies' leader after two rounds, freshman Tze Huang Choo, finished in a tie for 15th after shooting a 5-over 77. Choo ended up 6-over 222 for the tournament, equaling his best effort versus par of the season.
Rounding out the UW lineup were sophomore Nick Taylor who tied for 25th (9-over 225), sophomore Darren Wallace who tied for 38th (11-over 227) and senior Zach Bixler who tied for 52nd (19-over 235). Freshman Kevin Spooner played as an individual, finishing in a tie for 62nd (30-over 226).
Pacific's T.J. Bordeaux won medalist honors by five shots at 6-under 210. Oregon's Joey Benedetti claimed runner-up acclaim at 1-under 215. The duo were the only players to finish under par.
The Huskies will return to the links April 7-8 at the Missouri Tiger Intercollegiate in Columbia, Mo.
