March 26, 2008

UCLA women's basketball co-captains Lindsey Pluimer (San Clemente, CA) and Erica Tukiainen (Los Angeles, CA) have been named to the Pac-10 All-Academic team for 2007-08. Pluimer earned first-team honors for the third consecutive year, posting a 3.71 GPA in Communication Studies, while Tukiainen received honorable mention acclaim.

Pluimer, a senior forward, becomes only the seventh women's basketball player ever to earn first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honors three times in her career. Pluimer was the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a first-team CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 8 selection. She led UCLA in scoring (14.1 ppg), rebounding (6.5 rpg), blocked shots (33), three-point shooting (.385) and free throw shooting (.835) this season and finished the year ranked amongst the Pac-10 leaders in seven categories. Pluimer, who was also a first-team All-Pac-10 honoree this season, started in all 123 games of her UCLA career, becoming the first Bruin in the NCAA era to do so. She finished her career with 1,556 points, 737 rebounds, 93 blocked shots and 84 three-pointers.

Tukiainen, a sophomore guard, received her first Pac-10 honor after a season in which she started 22 of 31 games played. She averaged 4.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. This season, she posted career-highs of 12 points at Washington State, nine rebounds at Cal State Northridge and four assists at Arizona.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
