Three Bears Make Pac-10 All-Academic Team
March 28, 2008
BERKELEY - Seniors Nicki Wells and Siobhan Luce, and sophomore Sophia Hocini were selected to the Pac-10 All-Academic team, announced today by Commissioner Tom Hansen. Wells made the first team, while Hocini made the second team and Luce was an honorable-mention selection.
To be eligible for selection to the all-academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be a starter or significant contributor.
Wells, a statistics major, made the all-academic team for the third year in her collegiate career. She made the second team last year and was an honorable-mention pick in 2006. Wells has also been named an academic All-American in 2007 and 2005.
Hocini, who was also an academic All-American last year, made the conference all-academic team for the first time. Yet to declare a major, Hocini has been one of Cal's most consistent contributors in 2008. She has competed in 43 of 44 events this season.
This is the third year in a row that Luce has been an honorable-mention selection, as she also garnered the honor in 2007 and 2006. An integrative biology major, Luce has led the way for the Bears in her final campaign. Like Hocini, she has competed in 43 of the 44 events this season.
Cal will compete in the Pac-10 Championships tomorrow at 4 p.m. in Seattle, Wash. The conference championships will air tape delayed on Comcast Bay Area next Saturday, April 5, at 7 p.m.
