March 31, 2008
Stanford freshman Alexandra Gits was the top American finisher in the junior race at the World Cross Country Championships from Edinburgh, Scotland on Sunday. Gits qualified for the race by placing second at the United States Cross Country Championships back in February.
Gits finished 13th overall in a time of 20:41 to pace the American team that finished sixth. Ethiopia won the team race with all six of their athletes finishing in the top 11.
Gits has been a key contributor for the Cardinal in her freshman season. She was a member of the national champion cross country team in the fall where she placed 53rd at the NCAA Championships.
