Matt Bruch Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week
March 31, 2008
STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Matt Bruch (Lake Forest, Ill.) earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors for playing a large part in Stanford's three wins this past week, including their first two conference matches of the season. This is the first Player of the Week honor for Bruch and for the Cardinal this season.
Bruch won all three of his singles matches at the No. 2 position in straight sets. Two of those wins proved to be the match-clinching victories against No. 75 Brown, 6-1, and the upset shutout of No. 15 Arizona State, 7-0.
In doubles, he and teammate Blake Muller combined for three wins as well, including the upending of the Sun Devils' No. 53 doubles pair of T.J. Bellama and Matt Brooklyn. Stanford captured the doubles point in all three matches.
With Bruch and his teammates' efforts, the Cardinal started the Pac-10 season off right, gathering two wins in the highly competitive conference. Stanford will next face USC on Friday, and UCLA on Saturday, two teams that previously defeated the Cardinal this season.
