WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD junior Matt Bruch and ARIZONA STATE freshman Kelcy McKenna have been named Pac-10 Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week for Mar. 24-30, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Bruch was instrumental in Stanford's success against three ranked opponents last week, as he won all three of his singles matches in straight sets, and combined with teammate Blake Muller to capture all three of his doubles matches. Two of his singles wins proved to be the match-clinching victories against No. 75 Brown, 6-1, and the upset shutout of No. 15 Arizona State, 7-0. He and Muller also took down the Sun Devils' No. 53 doubles pair, T.J. Bellama and Matt Brooklyn, 8-4, in the No. 1 doubles position.

Ranked No. 34 in the nation, Stanford's men are now 8-6 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-10 as they head to Los Angeles to take on USC and UCLA.

McKenna won both of her singles matches in the No. 2 position against No. 7 California and No. 5 Stanford without losing a set. She beat No. 20 Jessica Nguyen of Stanford, 6-4, 6-4, to help her team defeat the Cardinal for the first time in 24 years. The freshman also tallied a huge victory over two-time NCAA champion Susie Babos, 6-3, 7-5, even though her team would fall. McKenna also won both her doubles matches to help secure the doubles point for the Sun Devils in both matches. The freshman is now 28-6 overall in singles (14-2 in dual play) and 22-7 overall in doubles.

Arizona State holds a 12-4 overall record and 2-1 Conference record in dual match play this season as it will finish out the season on the road, first heading to the state of Washington to take on the Huskies and Cougars this weekend.

This is the first Pac-10 Player of the Week award for both Bruch and McKenna. The award is the first for the Stanford men's team and the fourth for the Sun Devil women.
