Four Bruins Named To All-Pac-10 Gymnastics Team

April 1, 2008

UCLA gymnasts Ariana Berlin, Anna Li, Jordan Schwikert and Tasha Schwikert have been named to the Pac-10 All-Conference team. Berlin, Li and Jordan Schwikert received first-team honors in the all-around, while Tasha Schwikert was named to the first team on vault and uneven bars.

Berlin's third-place all-around finish at the Pac-10 Championships helped her gain her first-ever all-conference honor. She scored a season-high 39.4 at the Championships and earned season-high marks on the uneven bars (9.9), balance beam (9.85) and floor exercise (9.85). Berlin has been one of UCLA's most consistent gymnasts ever, hitting 95.8% of her career routines, including 32 in a row. She has scored 39+ in the all-around in the last six meets.

Li repeats as an All-Pac-10 performer in the all-around. Ranked second in the nation on uneven bars and 14th in the all-around, she placed sixth at the Pac-10 Championships, her first meet back in all-around action since suffering an injury during the Feb. 24 meet. Li posted a career-best 39.6 in the all-around this season and leads the team with 17 individual victories on the year. Also this year, she has earned career-high marks on uneven bars (9.975) and floor exercise (9.925).

Jordan Schwikert earns her second career All-Pac-10 honor in the all-around and her third nod overall. She received All-Pac-10 acclaim in the all-around in 2005 and on uneven bars in 2007. Jordan placed fourth in the all-around and third on floor exercise at the 2008 Pac-10 Championships. She finished the regular season ranked 24th in the nation in the all-around and has enjoyed an extremely consistent season, hitting 38 of her 40 routines on the year.

With two honors this year, Tasha Schwikert brings her career total to seven All-Pac-10 nods, matching her career total of Pac-10 individual titles. During her freshman season in 2005, she was honored in the all-around, vault, uneven bars and floor exercise, and in 2007, she was selected in the all-around. Tasha won a share of the uneven bars title at the Pac-10 Championships this year and tied for third on vault. She was the 2007 Pac-10 Gymnast of the Year and the 2005 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year.

The All-Conference first team consists of the top six all-around competitors, plus the top three competitors in each individual event not amongst the all-around selections. The All-Conference second team consists of 10 individuals who were not honored on the first team. A gymnast's score is determined by a combination of 50 percent regional qualifying score (entire season composite) and 50 percent Pac-10 Conference Championship score.
