Lovemark, Hie On 2008 Nicklaus Award Watch List

USC sophomores Jamie Lovemark and Rory Hie have been included on the watch list for the 2008 Jack Nicklaus Award, presented to the NCAA Division I Player of the Year, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Tuesday (April 8).
Lovemark won the award as a freshman after winning the 2007 NCAA individual title. Hie was recently tabbed as the Pac-10 Golfer of the Month for March 2008 (his second such career honor).
The Nicklaus Award recipients will be named immediately following the final round of the NCAA Championships (March 28-31).
Lovemark, a 2007 All-American first teamer who won virtually every individual award available to an NCAA men's golfer as a freshman, again leads the Trojans in stroke average at 71.00 ... He has finished in the top 7 five times this year (in the top 11 six times), including a second at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate, a tie for sixth at the Ping/Golfweek Fall Preview, a tie for fifth at the UH Hilo Invitational, a tie for seventh at the UNLV Southern Highlands Collegiate and a tie for second at the U.S. Collegiate Championship ... Lovemark missed USC's season-opener while representing the United States at the Walker Cup ... He has six rounds in the 60s, including a season-best 65 at the UH Hilo Invitational ... For the second consecutive season, Lovemark is on the Watch List for the 2008 The Ben Hogan Award (he was a semifinalist last year) ... Also, Lovemark was tabbed as one of 11 finalists for the 2007 Sullivan Award, which honors the nation's top amateur athlete.
Hie, All-Pac-10 second team as a 2007 freshman, is averaging 72.00 strokes per round, second on the team ... Hie recently won his second collegiate title at the UNLV Southern Highlands Collegiate, where he tied for first and won a three-man playoff with a birdie on the first hole ... He has a team-best five top 10 finishes, including his win, a tie for fifth at the UH Hilo Invitational, a tie for sixth at the Ping/Golfweek Fall Preview and ties for ninth at the CordeValle Collegiate and the USC Collegiate... Hie has five rounds in the 60s, including a USC record 62 in the second round of the UH Hilo Invitational (on a 70 par course). The previous USC record was 63.
