Hutchinson Wins Discus At UCLA RJ/JJK Invite

Redshirt senior Kate Hutchinson won the women's open discus competition to lead the Trojans at the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invite this weekend (April 10-12) at Drake Stadium on the UCLA campus.
Hutchinson, the USC record-holder in the discus, won on Friday (April 11) with a season-best throw of 172-4 (52.54m). Her all-time best mark is 189-5 set during the 2006 season. Placing second in the discus was teammate Lauren Guerrieri with a throw of 151-8 (46.22m). The freshman Guerrieri has a season best of 157-1.
On Thursday, Guerrieri placed 20th in the women's open hammer throw competition with a new PR of 143-0 (43.59m). Redshirt freshman Tamara Baumann also had a PR and placed 18th in the hammer with a throw of 146-4 (44.61m). Redshirt junior Jekabs Sliede took ninth in the men's open hammer competition with a throw of 152-8 (46.54m).
Freshman Zara Lukens placed fifth in the women's 10000m invite race on April 11 with a time of 39:09.20. Her time moved her into third place on the USC women's 10000m list.
Also on Friday, senior Daniel Corrigan placed third in the men's open pole vault competition with a clearance of 15-7 (4.75m). Junior Stenn Parton placed eighth in the men's open javelin with a throw of 155-1 (47.27). Jumpers redshirt senior Michelle Sanford (12.52) and freshman Terry Prentice (11.56) both got some work in the women's and men's 100m races respectively.
Redshirt sophomore pole vaulter Derek Scott was the only Trojan in action on Saturday and he no heighted in the men's pole vault invite competition.
USC will next be in action at the Mt. SAC Relays held April 18-20 in Walnut, Calif.
