Mustain, Corp Throw TDs, Gable Runs For Score In USC Scrimmage

Sophomore quarterback Mitch Mustain and redshirt freshman Aaron Corp each threw a touchdown pass and sophomore tailback C.J. Gable ran for another score to highlight the USC football team's second intrasquad scrimmage of 2008 spring practice on Saturday (April 12) at USC.
Mustain hit sophomore wide receiver David Ausberry for a 12-yard TD, while Corp found redshirt freshman Brandon Carswell on an 11-yard score. Carswell also returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown in the 88-play scrimmage.
Mustain completed 9-of-18 passes for 112 yards, Corp was 7-of-8 for 80 yards and junior Mark Sanchez hit 9-of-17 throws for 97 yards. Mustain and Sanchez each threw an interception.
Gable, who ran for 50 yards on 4 carries, had a 7-yard TD run. Redshirt freshman tailback added 35 yards on 7 carries, while junior tailback Allen Bradford had 30 yards on 7 carries.
Four Trojans had 3 receptions each: Ausberry (35 yards), senior wide receiver Patrick Turner (43 yards), soph wide receiver Damian Williams (41 yards) and redshirt freshman tight end Rhett Ellison (45 yards).
Junior cornerback Kevin Thomas had a game-best 6 tackles, while senior linebacker Rey Maualuga, sophomore linebacker Michael Morgan, sophomore safety Marshall Jones and junior cornerback Matthew Jordan each recorded 5 tackles. Junior cornerback Shareece Wright and sophomore safety Shane Horton each had an interception.
The Trojans missed out on a pair of other scoring opportunities early in the scrimmage when Wright picked off Sanchez's short pass at the goal line and on the following series when Buehler's 30-yard field goal attempt was aborted because of a bad snap.
Six-time defending Pac-10 champion USC, which has a week remaining in its spring drills, opens its 2008 season on Aug. 30 at Virginia.
