No. 8 Cal Baseball Wins 14-1 at Pacific

STOCKTON, CALIF. - The No. 8-ranked California baseball team scored four runs in the first inning on a three-run homer by Stockton native David Cooper and a solo shot by Josh Satin, and received solid pitching from senior right-hander Alex Rollin, on the way to a 14-1 victory at Pacific Tuesday evening at Klein Family Field. The Golden Bears improved to 24-9-2 and the Tigers fell to 8-25.
The Bears scored four runs in the top of the first inning off of Pacific starter Corey Kohnke with junior first baseman Cooper hitting his three-run homer to left-center field in his first at-bat to thrill his hometown fans, followed by a solo homer from senior second baseman Satin. Cal added another run in the fifth inning on sophomore catcher Dylan Tonneson's solo home run to left center field off of Tiger reliever Casey Niemeyer.
The Bears then exploded for five runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run triple by sophomore center fielder Brett Jackson and RBI doubles by sophomore third baseman Jeff Kobernus and Tonneson. Cal added two more runs in the seventh inning on Michael Capbarat's two-run single, and two addition runs in the eighth inning on junior shortstop Michael Brady's two-run homer to left.
Meanwhile, Rollin improved his record to 4-1 by throwing a career-high 7.0 innings with six hits, one run, three walks and five strikeouts. His lone run was given up in the bottom of the first on Brett Manning's RBI groundout.
The Bears finished with 17 hits and four home runs off of eight different Pacific pitchers, including Cooper's Pac-10-leading 15th homer, and Satin's 12 homer of the year. Tonneson was a career-high 4-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBI.
Cal will next host Washington in a three-game Pac-10 series, beginning Friday, Apr. 18 at 2:30 p.m. at Evans Diamond.
