STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford Rowing returns to the water this weekend after a two-week break, hosting 10 other crews in the 2008 Stanford Invitational at Redwood Shores. Saturday's races are set to begin at 9 a.m., while Sunday's action will get underway at 9:08 a.m.
The Stanford women's novice four start the competition off with the opening race Saturday opposite Central Florida, followed by the Lightweights battling Santa Clara at 9:08 a.m. The women's varsity eight get underway in the day's third race, at 9:16 a.m., while the Stanford men open up their slate with a time trial at 9:48 a.m.
Two weeks ago, the men finished sixth in the grand final of the Copley Cup San Diego Crew Classic. Despite the finish, the Cardinal men finished just 4.5 seconds back of the winner and defending national champion crew from Washington, and were part of a thrilling photo finish with Harvard, California, and Northeastern for spots three through six.
The Stanford women took fourth place in the Jessop-Whittier Cup event at the Classic, while the second varsity eight managed to overcome a slow start to finish fifth.
Meanwhile, in New Jersey, the No. 2 Stanford Lightweights captured the Knecht Cup Regatta, defeating such competition as No. 4 Harvard and No. 5 Wisconsin in the final.
