Stanford Multi-Event Athletes Come Up Big At Mt. SAC

    The Stanford multi-event athletes performed well at Azusa Pacific University in the decathlon and heptathlon. The top multi-event athletes competed in the 2008 Mt. SAC Relays multi-event competition, while others competed in the 2008 California Invitational Multi-events.

    Josh Hustedt led Stanford with a third place finish against an elite field at the Mount SAC Relays Multi-events. Hustedt finished 7,465 points, which was a career best and established a national provisional standard. The score also moved Hustedt into third place on the all-time decathlon list at Stanford. Hustedt was particularly strong in the pole vault where he set a career best of 16-10 ¾ and tied with the eventual overall winner Mike Morrison of Florida for the top vault of the competition.

    In the California Invitational Multi-event, Corey Dysick placed fifth with 6,310 points. It was an impressive second day for Dysick who moved all the way up from 18th place after the first day. Dysick excelled in the pole vault where his vault of 15-3 was the best in the competition.

    In the heptathlon competition of the Mt. SAC Relays, Lauren Stewart placed eighth with a score of 5,262. This score was a national provisional standard and a career best. Her top event with 935 points was the 100 meter hurdles where she ran a time of 14.31 seconds. Julie Hollman of Great Britain won the event with 5,766 points against an outstanding field.

    In the California Invitational Heptathlon Stanford had three competitors led by Whitney Liehr who finished third. Liehr scored 5,126 points to achieve a personal best and a national provisional standard. The Stanford freshman also moved into the top-10 all-time for Stanford in the heptathlon list.

    The other Stanford competitors were Kara Bennett who finished 16th with 4,531 points and Lexie Spiranac who finished 21st with 4,404 points.
