Erdelyi And White Earn Pac-10 Athlete Of The Week Honors

April 21, 2008

Freshman Zsofia Erdelyi and redshirt junior Corey White were named Pac-10 Track and Field Athletes of the Week today (April 21) for their record-setting performances during the week of April 14-20.

Erdelyi was named Pac-10 Female Track Athlete of the Week as she set the USC record in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:11.32 at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 18. Her time was the second-fastest by a college female this season entering this week's action. Erdelyi beat the old school record of 10:14.51 set by Julia Budniak in 2004. Erdelyi was running her first steeplechase as a Trojan and bettered her previous best of 10:13.17 set in the Fall of 2006 while she was still in high school in Hungary.

White was named the Pac-10 Male Field Athlete of the Week as he bettered his school javelin record with a winning throw of 267-10 at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 20. His throw was fifth best in the world this season and the second best by an American. It is the top collegiate mark this season by over 20 feet. White had previously set the school record with a throw of 256-10 on April 5 at the Texas Relays.
