Marissa Tschida Named Pac-10 Women's Field Athlete of Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Washington State University freshman javelin thrower Marissa Tschida (pronounced chee-dah) was named the Pacific-10 Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for April 14-20, 2008.
Tschida, from Missoula, Mont., broke her own freshman school javelin record Friday, April 18, at the Mt. SAC Relays. She won her section with a toss of 161-feet, 8 inches (49.28m). Tschida has thrown an improved NCAA Regional Qualifying javelin mark in three different meets this season. In addition to being the WSU freshman record, her April 18 toss is the third-best women's javelin throw in school history.
This is the second Pac-10 Athlete of the Week honor for a Cougar freshman. Jeshua Anderson (Woodland Hills, Calif.) was named the Pac-10 Men's Track Athlete of the Week for March 31-April 6, for breaking the WSU freshman record in the men's 400m hurdles with his Texas Relays time of 49.68 seconds. Anderson's time was and NCAA Regional Qyalifying time and the fastest collegiate time in the nation as of that date.
