Draws For The 2008 Pac-10 Tennis Championships Announced

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 22 Stanford men's tennis team is headed to southern California for the 2008 Pac-10 Tennis Championships as part of the 108th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament. The Cardinal are broken into four brackets, as four men will play in the Invitational Singles, and four will play in the Championship singles. Stanford also has two teams each in the Invitational Doubles and Championship doubles brackets.
The Cardinal, who went captured third place in the conference and went 5-2 in the Pac-10 regular season will open things up on Thursday morning at 8 a.m. At last year's tournament, Matt Bruch captured the Pac-10 Singles Championship for the second year in a row, and also won the doubles title along with partner Blake Muller.
Jeff Zeller will take on No. 21 Arizona State's Wes Miller in the Invitational bracket, while Phil Kao will face off against No. 59 Arizona's fourth-seeded No. 96 Claudio Christen in the Championship bracket in Stanford's first two matches of the day.
At 9 a.m., Kevin Kaiser will square off against Arizona's Nathan Cochrane in the Invitational bracket, and Greg Hirshman will meet Arizona State's third-seeded No. 78 Matt Brooklyn in the Championship pairings.
At 10:30 a.m., Ted Kelly will try to defeat Oregon's Mikael Myrhed in the Invitational bracket and Blake Muller will trade swings with No. 35 Washington's Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan in the Championship bracket.
Doubles play will commence on Friday. In the Invitational round-up, partners Kao and Zeller will face Washington's Martin Kildahl and Tobi Obenaus, while the duo of Kaiser and Morrissey will battle Arizona State's Jack Marsh and Murilo Souza. Both matches are slated for a 9 a.m. start.
In the Championship order, Hirshman and Wire will start up against No. 7 USC's top-seeded, second-ranked duo of Robert Farah and Kaes Van't Hof. Kelly and partner Muller will take the court against Oregon's Alexander Cornelisen and Marcos Verdasco. Both Championship bracket matches for the Cardinal will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday.
Seventh-ranked Alex Clayton and No. 80 Matt Bruch will not be playing in this weekend's Pac-10 Championships and will get the chance to rest in order to help heal some ailments before NCAA competition begins.
