Men's Golf Signs Taylor Travis
April 22, 2008
First-year head golf coach Derek Freeman added another player to his already impressive 2008 recruiting class this week, inking Taylor Travis of Fremont's American High School.
Travis, ranked 52nd by GolfWeek, completes a class of five players scheduled to enroll at UCLA in September.
'Taylor Travis completes an outstanding group of incoming players for UCLA,' said Freeman. 'He is one of the best players in the state. He has limitless potential and we are thrilled that he will be playing golf for the Bruins.'
A 2007 AJGA All-American, Travis won three local tournaments last summer: the Palo Alto Invitational, the Antioch Invitational and the Livermore Invitational. In addition, he tied for second at the Northern California Junior Championship at Lake Merced Golf Course. He also tied for third in the 2007 Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, posting rounds of 70-72-74--216 (E).
In 2006, Travis was voted East Bay Player of the Year and led American HS to the Mission Valley Athletic League title while also winning the league individual title with scores of 71-70--141. That year he also tied for first place at the NorCal Junior Championship with a score of 69 and tied for eighth at the California State Junior Championship with a score of 71 (-1) at Santa Maria Country Club.
Travis joins Mauricio Azcue (Mexico City, Mexico), Alex Kim (Sunny Hills HS, Fullerton, Calif.), Gregor Main (Danville, Calif.) and Beau Schoolcraft (Kent Denver HS, Englewood, Colo.).
