UW Women Remain Eighth After Second Round of Pac-10 Championships

PALOS VERDES, CALIF. - Sophomore Christina Yoon and freshman Anya Alvarez both carded rounds of 2-over 73 to lead the Washington women's golf team during the second round of the Pac-10 Championships at Palos Verdes Golf Club, Tuesday.
With the help of Yoon and Alvarez, the Huskies improved upon their first round score by two shots with second-round performance of 24-over 308 but maintained their eighth-place position on the team leaderboard. Yoon leads UW heading into Wednesday's final round and is tied for 15th at 7-over 149, while Alvarez is one stroke behind in a tie for 17th at 8-over 150.
The Huskies trail seventh-place Stanford by eight strokes as the Cardinal stands at 42-over 610. USC took over the team lead with the best round of the day, shooting 8-over 292. The host Women of Troy, which are also ranked third in the nation, hold a nine-stroke lead over No. 2 UCLA (18-over 586). Fourth-ranked Arizona State is in third place (22-over 590).
Yoon moved up nine spots on the individual leaderboard with her second-round effort, improving upon her first-round score by three shots. She tallied two birdies and four bogies on Tuesday. Alvarez made an even bigger climb as the Husky rookie began the day in a tie for 31st. Starting on the back nine, she was 2-under par midway through the round but then finished the front nine at 4-over.
UW freshman Karinn Dickinson carded a 6-over 77 in the second round and is tied for 38th at 16-over 158. Sophomore Molly Aronsson fell back into a tie for 41st after shooting 14-over 85. She is 19-over 161 overall. Freshman Nicole Ferrero rounds out the UW lineup and is tied for 49th at 32-over 174.
The Huskies will begin final round play on Wednesday from the 10th tee at 9:10 a.m. and will be paired with Stanford.
