April 23, 2008
The top-ranked Sun Devil Softball squad (48-3, 10-1 Pac-10) squad continues their home Pac-10 slate this weekend, hosting the Oregon State Beavers (26-21, 4-6 Pac-10) and Oregon (28-20, 1-9 Pac-10), where they'll look to continue their winning streak in their home of Farrington Stadium. The Sun Devils will take on Oregon State on Friday, where they will continue their halted game from April 6 in Corvallis. The continuation will start at 6:30 with ASU leading 6-4 in the seventh inning. After the completion of that game, they will immediately begin their regularly scheduled match-up. They will then face the Oregon Ducks on Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at noon.
Last Time Out:
Last week saw the Sun Devils make history yet again this season as they did something the ASU softball program hasn't done in 20 years: sweep their in-state rival, Arizona. In Friday night's game against the back-to-back defending national champions, ASU prevailed as a two-run home run from Mindy Cowles was all the Sun Devils needed as Katie Burkhart pitched a phenomenal 4-hit complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts against the `Cats to give ASU theirfi rst series win over Arizona since 1991.
Game three on Saturday afternoon on live national television the Sun Devils proved the wins weren't afluke as they rallied up a comefrom- behind win in walk-off fashion, barely edging the `Cats in 7 innings 9-8 with freshman, Krista Donnenwirth hitting back-to-back home runs off of Taryne Mowatt.
