No. 2 Cardinal Wraps Up Competition At Pac-10 Championships

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 2 Stanford completed play at the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif., on Friday afternoon, wrapping up its final competition before NCAA Tournament first and second round action gets underway in two weeks.
After a pair of straight-set victories yesterday, Barte dropped her first match since Feb. 20 when she was trailed California's Claire Ilcinkas 5-4 and was forced to retire due to injury. Prior to today, Barte had won 19 in a row to improve to 27-5 on the year.
Playing in the invitational division, Yen dropped a 6-1 decision to UCLA's Alex McGoodwin 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
Both doubles teams recorded a victory in the round of 16 before suffering a loss in the quarterfinals. The duo of senior Whitney Deason and junior Jessica Nguyen improved to 20-5 overall with an 8-3 triumph over Arizona State's Laila Abdala and Nadia Abdala in the first round. Deason and Nguyen were then stopped in the quarterfinals by California's Susie Babos and Stephanie Kusano 8-5.
Senior Lejla Hodzic and Yen teamed up in the invitational division. The duo defeated Washington State's Marina Nicolas and Bianca Selaru 8-3 before falling to UCLA's Alex McGoodwin and Andrea Remynse 8-6 in the following round.
NCAA Tournament first and second round competition is scheduled for May 9-10 at select campus sites, with Stanford serving as a likely host site. The final 16 teams advance to Tulsa, Okla., the following week for the NCAA Championships.
