Men's Tennis Claims Both Singles and Doubles Invitational Titles

April 27, 2008

OJAI, Calif. - California men's tennis freshman Bozhidar Katsarov won his 34th singles match of the year and completed play at the 2008 Pacific-10 Conference Men's Tennis Championships with a perfect 9-0 record in all matches, today at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club in Ojai, Calif. Katsarov defeated Arizona State's Wes Miller in two thrilling tiebreakers to earn the Men's Singles Invitational draw title. In the first set, Katsarov won the breaker by a 7-4 score and in the second, edged Miller by a 9-7 final for his third individual tournament title of his freshman season. He also won the Chandler Cup title and the second flight title at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic in the fall.

Katsarov teamed up with fellow freshman Jonathan Dahan in the Men's Doubles Invitational draw to win the final match by an 8-6 count over USC's Jack Levis and Jason McNaughton. The duo earned their 11th victory together since beginning their partnership in early March and completed the weekend with a 4-0 doubles record.

The Bears will now await NCAA Tournament selection announcements. Announcements will air between 2 and 2:30 p.m. Eastern time, Tuesday, April 29, on ESPNews. Please check CalBears.com for updates and information.
