Bruins Begin Play as Top-Seeded Team in NCAA Central Regional
May 7, 2008
Third-ranked UCLA begins play on Thurs., May 8 at the NCAA Women's Golf Central Regional as the top-seeded team. The Bruins will tee off from the first tee at 9 a.m. with second-seeded Purdue and No.3 Alabama.
The University of Texas Golf Club will play to a par of 72 over 6,301 yards. It is considered one of the toughest campus courses in the nation. In March, New Mexico won the Betsy Rawls Invitational with a score of 47-over par at this venue. The individual medalist was Arkansas' Stacy Lewis, who was seven-over par.
Head Coach Carrie Forsyth invites the chance to play a difficult course.
'Quite frankly, we welcome the opportunity to play tough course like the University of Texas Golf Club,' said Forsyth. 'Playing a tougher golf course more closely resembles the conditions -- both physically and mentally -- that we'll encounter at the NCAA Championship.'
Of the top six finishers at the Betsy Rawls event, three will be competing at the NCAA Central Regional: host Texas (3rd), Notre Dame and Texas Christian (T5th).
The Bruins, winners of three tournaments this season, will be seeking their fourth regional championship in Forsyth's nine-year tenure.
