Day 1: Traveling to Sacramento, the site of the Pac-10 Championships
May 16, 2008
The Women of Troy left USC at 7:15 a.m. Friday morning to make it to the airport to travel to Sacramento, Calif. for the Pac-10 Championships taking place on Sunday May 18. The lines at the airport were long, but we finally made it through and onto our flight up to Sacramento at 9:40 a.m.
Once arriving in Sacramento, the team rented the vans for the weekend. While waiting for the vans, some of the Women of Troy decided to pass the time by playing some soccer and volleyball in the airport baggage claim area! It was very entertaining for the players as well as the spectators!
After getting in the vans, the team headed to the hotel to get some lunch. After lunch and checking into the hotels, the girls had some downtime before going to practice.
The team left for Lake Natoma for practice at 2:15 p.m. After rigging the boats they finally got into the water to practice on the course that they will be racing on Sunday. It is extremely hot here, close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit so the team is being vigilant and is hydrating so not to get sick or lose energy that they will need later in the weekend.
After practice the team headed back to the hotel to clean up, relax and have some dinner.
Junior Diana Ivanova stated, 'On travel days we want to stay focused but we do not want to over-exert ourselves because traveling takes a lot out of us. After practice we try to relax and catch up on our rest.'
After practice everyone came back to the hotel, shared a team meal and relaxed after a very long day. Tomorrow starts early, with practice at 7 a.m.!
