Husky Men Sweep Pac-10 Rowing Titles

May 18, 2008

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - Washington captured every men's trophy for the first time in 11 years and the Husky women's varsity four also won its conference title, Sunday at the Pac-10 Rowing Championships on Lake Natoma.

The top-ranked Huskies captured back-to-back men's varsity eight championships for the first time since 2003-04 with a thrilling come-from-behind victory over California. That win capped UW's first sweep of all four men's events since the 1997 season.

UW men's crews were also victorious in the second varsity eight, freshman eight and varsity four competitions. Those four triumphs pushed the Huskies' team total to 72 points, giving them the overall men's championship.

The UW women placed fourth in the team standings that were topped by California.

The Huskies placed fifth in the women's varsity eight race, fourth in the second varsity event and second among novice eights.
