TULSA, Okla.- No. 4 Stanford will be represented by three different student-athletes in the NCAA Championship singles and doubles draw, as two singles participants and one doubles team have been selected to the main field.
Freshman Hilary Barte and junior Jessica Nguyen have earned spots in the singles draw, which begins Wednesday, May 21. Barte faces UNLV's Elena Gantcheva, ranked No. 36 nationally, in an 8 a.m. PT match. Nguyen will battle Miami's Laura Vallverdu, ranked No.19 nationally, in a 9:30 a.m. PT contest.
Barte, ranked No. 3 in the country, earned the tournament's No. 3 overall seed. Barte is a team-best 29-7 on the year and 22-4 in dual match play. Barte is bidding to become the first freshman in school history to win at least 30 overall matches and 20 duals since 2004 when Theresa Logar posted a 38-4 overall mark and was 27-0 in dual match action.
Nguyen, ranked No. 13 in the nation, was tabbed one of eight No. 9-16 seeds in the draw. Nguyen is 28-9 overall and 17-5 in dual match play, competing primarily at the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
Nguyen has been perhaps the Cardinal's hottest player down the stretch, owning a seven-match winning streak heading into Wednesday's tilt.
