Five Pac-10 Teams Headed to NCAA Baseball Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS - The field of 64 teams competing for the 2008 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship was announced today by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.

The Pac-10 has five teams in the tournament making 2008 the 12th consecutive season the Conference has qualified at least four of its nine teams for the NCAA Tournament.

Arizona State garnered the No. 3 overall seed of the tournament and will host a regional as they take on Stony Brook in the first round along with hosting Oklahoma and Vanderbilt.

Stanford, currently ranked No. 15 in the Baseball America poll, is also hosting a regional and will play UC Davis as well as host Arkansas and Pepperdine.

California will travel to southern California to the Long Beach regional and will take on San Diego with the hope of advancing to face Long Beach State or Fresno State.

The UCLA Bruins will stay closer to home participating in the Fullerton regional. The Bruins will take on Virginia with hopes of advancing to face host Cal State Fullerton or Rider.

Rounding out the Conference is Arizona, who is seeded No. 1 in the Ann Arbor regional, and will face Eastern Michigan with the chance of taking on Kentucky or Michigan in the second round.

Each of the 16 regionals feature four teams, playing a double-elimination format. The regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, May 30, to Monday, June 2 (if necessary). Selection of the eight super regional hosts will be announced on www.ncaa.com, Monday, June 2 at approximately 11 p.m. (ET).

The 62nd Men's College World Series begins play Saturday, June 14, at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska.
