Stanford Travels To Northridge Fpr NCAA West Regional

THIS WEEK
Stanford will compete in the NCAA West Regional meet at Cal State Northridge on Fri.-Sat., May 30-31. The regional meet will act a qualifier for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in June. The top-five in each individual event and the top-three in the relays will qualify for the NCAA Championships. The 10,000 meters, the decathlon, and the heptathlon will not be contested at the West Regional. Alexandra Gits has already achieved an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships in the 10,000 meters, while Hari Mix (10,000 meters), Josh Hustedt (decathlon), Lauren Stewart (heptathlon), and Whitney Liehr (heptathlon) have achieved provisional standards.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
In the latest USTFCCCA rankings the Stanford women are ranked tenth nationally, while the men are ranked 45th. On the men's side, seven of the top-25 teams nationally compete in the west region while six for the women. LSU is currently the top-ranked team nationally for both the men and the women. Arizona State is the top ranked team in the west region for the women while UCLA is the top ranked team in the west for the men.

LAST WEEK AT THE PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Erica McLain highlighted the weekend for the Cardinal by capturing both the long and triple jump titles. She finishes her Pac-10 career with seven event titles. Also winning a Pac-10 title for the Stanford women was Alexandra Gits in the 10,000 meters. The freshman followed up her NCAA automatic qualifier at the pay Jordan Cardinal Invitational with a conference championship in the same event. The men were led by Garrett Heath and Wopamo Osaisai who both captured Pac-10 titles. Heath led the deep middle-distance crew with the Pac-10 title in the 1,500 meters, while Osaisai captured the 100 meter title.

Stanford has a total of 20 men and 19 women competing at the West Regional. This is their event followed by their national rank with their qualifying mark.
