Lindsay Henahan to Join Cougar Swimming Staff
May 29, 2008
PULLMAN, Wash. - Lindsay Henahan, a former Washington State University swimmer, will be joining the Cougar swimming staff as an assistant coach, WSU Head Coach Erica Quam announced, Thursday. Henahan will be replacing Suzanne Yee; who spent the last eight seasons in Pullman. Henahan's duties will commence July 1.
'I am thrilled to have Lindsay coming back to WSU in the role of the assistant swim coach,' said Cougar Head Coach Erica Quam. 'Lindsay has always had a passion for swimming and has always been a great student of the sport. She has a great eye for technical details and has been successful at communicating these to her athletes who have made significant improvements over the last four years at Rochester Institute of Technology.'
Henahan was a member of the Cougar swim team from 1999-2003. She was a NCAA All-American in the 100 butterfly after placing 16th in the event at the 2003 NCAA Championships. Henahan still holds the WSU school record in the 100 butterfly with her time of 53.75 set in 2003. She is also a member of two WSU record-holding relays: the 200 free relay (1:32.82) and the 200 medley relay (1:42.33). Both records were set in 2001.
Since leaving WSU, Henahan has been an assistant coach at Rochester Institute of Technology for its combined men's and women's swimming program. At RIT, Henahan coached the school's first NCAA Division III women's qualifier in over 15 years in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM this past season. She also coached men's swimmer Erik Zelbacher, a three-time NCAA D-III All-American.
In Henahan's four years at RIT, 47 records have been broken and the team has been the Empire 8 champions from 2005-08.
Currently, Henahan is finishing up her master's degree in high school counseling. Her two younger brothers are both competitively swimming. Ricky will be a freshman at the University of Tennessee and is competing at the 2008 Olympic Trials, and Pat will be a senior swimmer at St. Bonaventure.
