May 29, 2008
Pacific-10 Conference Commissioner Tom Hansen announced the 2008 Men's and Women's All-Academic teams this week. To be eligible for selection to an academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum of 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or substitute of significant contribution.
For the first time ever, seven Women of Troy athletes receive All-Academic honors.
Junior captain Robin Hextrum (3.82 GPA, Neuroscience & Fine Arts) and junior Cassie Richardson (3.89 GPA, Linguistics Psychology & Broadcast Journalism) were selected to the first team while sophomore Lisa Greenwood (3.44 GPA, Creative Writing), senior captain Nichole Fischbach (3.17 GPA, Business Administration) and Lisa Sabalvaro (3.32 GPA, Communications) were named to the second team. Sophomores Carin Andersson and Liene Bertasjus received honorable mention.
This marks the second straight year that Hextrum and Richardson have been named to the All-Academic first team. After being bestowed with honorable mention for the past two years, Fischbach makes it onto the All-Academic team. It is the first selections for L. Greenwood and Sabalvaro. The honorable mention recognitions are firsts for Andersson and Bertasjus.
In 2007 and 2004 six athletes were named to the All-Academic team. In 2007, the Women of Troy had five athletes named to the first team.
