Steinberg in NCAA Singles Draw

May 21, 2008

TULSA, Okla. - University of Arizona junior Danielle Steinberg will take on Georgia Tech’s Kristi Miller today in the NCAA singles draw at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.

For Steinberg, ranked No. 31 overall, this will be her third year competing at the NCAA Championships. Last year she lost to Florida’s Csilla Borsanyi in the first round. As a freshman, she was downed by TCU's Helena Besovic.

Her opponent this year, Miller, is ranked No. 10 in the ITA collegiate poll and is Georgia Tech’s top player. If Steinberg advances, she will face the winner of California’s Claire Ilcinkas and Florida’s Borsanyi.

Singles play will start today and go through Sunday. The Pac-10 will be represented well, sending 17 participants—the most from any one conference. On Tuesday, UCLA took home the team championship for women’s tennis.
