W Tennis at the Pac-10 Championships

May 29, 2008

OJAI, Calif. - –Danielle Steinberg and Ariane Masschelein represented the Arizona women’s tennis team yesterday during day one of the Pac-10 Championships in singles play.

Steinberg faced Washington’s Tara Simpson in first round action. The Israeli junior made quick of the Husky as Steinberg won in straight sets; 6-3, 6-2.

The other Wildcat member, Masschelein, didn’t fare so well in her first round match as she was beaten in straight sets by Cal’s Susie Babos; 6-0, 6-1

For Steinberg’s second round opponent, she faced off against USC’s Amanda Fink. During the year Steinberg had faced off (and beaten) USC’s top player, Lindsey Nelson, so there was hope for an upset. But Steinberg was defeated by Fink; 6-2, 6-2.

Tomorrow Masschelein and Steinberg will play doubles against USC’s Fink and Gabriela Niculescu.
