Drewrey, Hensley Named to Pac-10 Academic Team

Berkeley - Sophomore Marissa Drewrey and junior Savannah Hensley of the California softball team was chosen as a Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mentions, as announced by league commissioner Tom Hansen this week. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and either be a starter or significant contributor.
Drewrey this season was an All-Pac-10 honorable mention and NFCA All-Pacific Region second-team selection, while also being named to the Fresno All-Regional team. The 6-3 right-hander compiled a 29-19 record with a 1.94 ERA (No. 10 in the Pac-10) and 312 strikeouts (No. 4 in the Pac-10), including 10 10+ strikeout performances. This season she set the program record for starts in a season (48) and had the second most appearances for a season (55, record is 56 by Holly Yost, 1997). Drewrey picked up three wins at the Fresno Regional, including her 11th shutout of the season with 10 strikeouts against Fresno State on May 17. She collected her 300th strikeout of the year and earned her 40th career win against Fresno State in the Regional Championship on May 18.
A junior transfer who saw action in 39 games, Hensley was primarily used as a pinch runner this season. She scored a run and produced two RBI and a double in the season opener vs. UC Riverside (Feb. 8), and had three straight games with a run scored (Mar. 14-Mar. 19). She scored a run vs. Arizona in Cal's 3-1 win on Mar. 29, and scored a run against Florida in the Super Regional on May 23.
Cal finished the season with a 43-27 record and a spot in the NCAA Super Regional in Gainesville, Fla.
