2008 Janet Evans Invitational Begins Friday

A field bulging with Olympic medalists like Natalie Coughlin, Jason Lezak, Klete Keller and Larsen Jensen and packed with numerous other U.S. national team members will compete in a U.S. Olympic Trials tune-up at the 2008 Janet Evans Invitational, Friday through Sunday (June 6-8), at the McDonald's Swim Stadium on the USC campus.
Among the other U.S. Olympians scheduled to compete at the JEI are Dana Vollmer, Allison Wagner and Tara Kirk while American national team members slated to race include World Championships gold medalist Ben Wildman-Tobriner, Julia Smit, Ashley Chandler, Kate Dwelley, Keri Hehn, Chad La Tourette and Rebecca Soni.
Soni, Hardy and Kirk are the three fastest Americans ever in the 100m breaststroke and three of the fastest seven ever in the world. The three will lock horns on Friday in the event. Soni, who won her third and fourth career NCAA titles this past spring, is also the fourth fastest woman ever in the 200m breast.
Former Trojans Jensen, Ous Mellouli and Keller, three of the best middle distance and distance freestylers in the world, will go toe-to-toe in the 400m free on Saturday. Sunday's action will be highlighted by a packed 100m free
Mellouli, a Tunisian Olympian, will join top international swimmers (many of which are also Olympians) from Canada, Switzerland, Hungry, Italy and the Philippines in action this week.
Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. Friday-Sunday with finals starting at 5 p.m. Tickets are $3 for prelim sessions and $5 for finals sessions.
