Alex Clayton Named 2008 ITA Singles All-American

STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman Alex Clayton was named a 2008 ITA All-American on Friday of last week following an exceptional rookie campaign at The Farm.

The ITA National Rookie of the Year finished the season with a final singles ranking of eighth, the highest ranking of any Pac-10 singles player, and compiled a 30-9 record on the year. He went 19-8 against nationally-ranked opponents and 17-6 in dual matches. After earning the eighth seed at the 2008 NCAA Singles Championships, he advanced to the semifinals where he fell to the eventual champion, top-ranked Somdev Devvarman of the University of Virginia.

A player must meet any of the following criteria to earn ITA All-America honors:
1) Top 16 seed in NCAA Singles Championships, or;
2) Reach round of 16 in NCAA Singles Championships, or;
3) Finish in the Top 20 of the final ITA Rankings.
