STANFORD, Calif. - Fresh off a team runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships, sophomore Jordan Cox qualified for the 2008 U.S. Open on Monday, June 2 by firing a two-round, three-under-par 141 at Lake Merced Golf and Country Club in San Francisco.

Cox's score tied him for fourth place with four other golfers, and earned him the second best score of the sectional as three golfers tied for first with a four-under-par 140. Cox was one of two amateurs to qualify from Northern California.

This is the first time Cox has qualified for the U.S. Open, which will be held at Torrey Pines in San Diego, Calif. beginning June 12.

Alumnus Zack Miller also participated in qualifying at Lake Merced shooting a one-over-par 145 that tied him for 17th. Also, senior Rob Grube, traveled the short distance from the NCAAs in West Lafayette, Ind. to his home state of Illinois to play in the sectional held in Lake Forest, Ill., also on June 2, at the Conway Farms Golf Club. He recorded a three-over-par 145 that knotted him for 16th place with one other golfer.
