Four Huskies Earn All-Academic Recognition

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Departing seniors Tara Simpson and Allison Rainey lead four Husky women's tennis players who were recognized as part of the Pac-10 All-Academic team, it was announced by conference commissioner Tom Hansen.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average above a 3.0 and be a starter or significant contributor.

Simpson (Vancouver, B.C.) earned a second team nod for the second year in a row, following a first team honor in 2006. Simpson owns a 3.60 GPA while majoring in chemistry. Her GPA was the highest among all second team members.

Rainey (Mercer Island, Wash.) joined Simpson on the second team, marking her third-straight second team inclusion. A political science major, Rainey owns a 3.58 GPA.

Honorable mentions were given to sophomores Joyce Ardies (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Aleksandra Malovic (Apeldoorn, Netherlands).
