Kallim Stewart Named to All-Pac-10 and All-Academic Teams

California men's tennis sophomore Kallim Stewart was named to the 2008 Pac-10 Men's Tennis All-Conference Second Team today by Commissioner Tom Hansen. Stewart's selection is his first postseason honor as a Golden Bear. Known as 'KJ' to his teammates, the top-court player for Cal completed his second-season campaign holding the No. 114 ranking in the final ITA Ranking of NCAA Men's Tennis Singles players.
Stewart compiled an 18-19 overall record in singles play including a 9-5 tournament mark. Stewart also received postseason honors academically earning a spot on the 2008 Pac-10 Men's Tennis All-Academic Second Team. Stewart has maintained a 3.44 overall GPA as an undeclared major at Berkeley. Joining Stewart on the second team is junior Geoff Chizever. Chizever is an interdisciplinary studies major with a 3.42 overall GPA. Chizever was one half of the Bears' top doubles team, taking the court with freshman Pedro Zerbini and completing the year with a 23-15 record in all of his doubles matches.
The Bears finished the season with a 13-11 record and advanced to the second round of the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships, falling to No. 6-ranked USC in Los Angeles. With a 4-3 record in Pac-10 play (4th place), Cal received the No. 27 ranking in the final ITA poll of NCAA Division I Men's Tennis teams.
