Brink, Burduli Named Conference Medal Winners

June 5, 2008

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State football player Alex Brink and women's tennis player Ekatarina Burduli were each named Pacific-10 Conference Medal winners, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced recently.

A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each Pac-10 school's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.

Brink, a native of Eugene, Ore., and recent draft pick of the Houston Texans, completed his WSU career as the Cougars' all-time leader in career passing yardage (10,913), touchdowns (76), attempts (1,451) and completions (848). The recipient of the 2007 ARA Sportsmanship Award, Brink was also a member of WSU's Honors College. He was named to both the Pac-10 All-Academic Team and the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII First Team. Brink was also one of 15 recipients of the National Football Foundation (NFF) Scholar-Athlete Award, which entitles him to an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship.

Burduli, from Tel Aviv, Israel, completed her WSU career as the school's all-time leader in singles wins with 91. The two-time NCAA Singles Championship participant was recently named the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sportsmanship and Leadership Award Northwest Region winner. Burduli is a three-time All-Pac-10 honoree, and was WSU's nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year. The psychology major and member of the Pac-10 All-Academic Team was also a recipient of the WSU Big 10 Senior Award, recognizing the 10 most accomplished graduating seniors for the entire university.

The Conference Medal winners will be honored at the State Farm Pride of the Pac-10 Luncheon held in Los Angeles, in conjunction with the Pac-10 Men's Basketball Tournament next March.
