WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Freshman standout Venise Chan was recognized for her stellar first season by the Pac-10 coaches today, as she was voted to the Pac-10 Women's Tennis All-Conference second team.

Chan was the driving force behind Washington's return to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2005. Since setting foot on campus, Chan was the unquestioned No. 1 singles player for the Huskies, and backed it up with a 21-10 season (15-6 at No. 1 singles) which included a berth in the NCAA Singles Championships.

The Hong Kong native finished the season ranked No. 37 by the ITA, and was ranked as high as No. 30 on two occasions.

Chan had wins over nine ranked opponents based on the final ITA rankings, including four NCAA Champinships entrants. She also boasted a 12-match win streak from Nov. 9, 2007 through Feb. 17, 2008. She was also named Pac-10 Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 11-17 during which she led UW to wins over Purdue and Illinois.

Chan becomes UW's fourth All-Pac-10 player, joining Kristina Kraszewski, Claire Carter, and Dea Sumantri.
