Jason Castro Named Rivals.com Second-Team All-American
June 10, 2008
STANFORD, Calif. -
Stanford junior catcher Jason Castro was named a Rivals.com Second-Team All-American for his breakout junior season on the Farm. During the regular season Castro led the Cardinal with a .379 batting average and also led the squad with 161 total bases.
Castro's fine regular season was impressive enough that the Houston Astros selected Castro with their first round pick last week, which was the 10th selection overall. Castro also landed a spot on the All-Pac-10 team two weeks ago.
His stellar performance has continued into the postseason, where he currently leads the team with a .464 batting average and has two home runs to go along with 13 RBI. Castro came through last weekend with a 3-RBI double against Cal State Fullerton, which played a major role in the Cardinal's 6th NCAA Super Regional title. Castro also homered in the first game against the Titans last weekend in the NCAA Super Regional.
Castro and the Cardinal travel to Omaha this weekend where they will begin the 2008 College World Series with a matchup against the Florida State Seminoles. The game is set for Saturday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. PST on ESPN. Stanford's next game will take place on Monday, June 16 against Miami or Georgia, depending on the outcome of their first game.
