Four Devils Named All-Americans by Baseball America

TEMPE, Ariz. - Four members of the Arizona State Sun Devil baseball team were named to the 2008 Baseball America All-American Team, including First Team Members Brett Wallace and Ike Davis. Mike Leake was awarded Second Team honors, while Jason Kipnis was named to the Third Team
Wallace earned First Team honors from Baseball America for the second straight season, after earning his second straight Pac-10 Player of the Year Award. Wallace finished the season with a .410 batting average, becoming only the second player in ASU history to bat over .400 twice in a career. He hit 22 home runs and brought home 83 runs, leading the Pac-10 in all three categories. He was the 13th overall selection by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2008 MLB Draft. Wallace has a .398 career batting average as a Sun Devil, second highest in Arizona State baseball history.
This is the fourth All-American honor for Wallace, who is also a Finalist for the Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award and a Semifinalist for the Wallace Award. Wallace was also named a First Team All-American by Rivals.com and the NCBWA and a Second Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
Davis was named to the First Team as a utility player, thanks to his .385 batting average with 16 homers and 76 RBI to go along with his 4-1 record and four saves as a pitcher. Davis was also named a First Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, the NCBWA and Rivals.com. Davis was selected 18th overall by the New York Mets in the 2008 MLB Draft.
Leake finished the year 11-3, his second straight season with more than ten victories. He was named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, earned Second Team All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball and Third Team honors from the NCBWA.
Kipnis hit .371 with 14 homers and 73 RBI and was named the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year. The transfer from Kentucky also stole 24 bases and was a fourth round draft pick of the San Diego Padres.
