Stanford Men's Frosh Eight Racing For Temple Challenge Cup At Henley Royal Regatta

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford Men's Rowing's freshman eight boat will hop across the pond this week to make its first appearance at the Henley Royal Regatta in Henley on Thames, England. The frosh eight will open up its chase for the Temple Challenge Cup Wednesday, July 2, at 6:05 a.m. PT, facing off against South Africa's University of Stellenbbosch in first-round action of the single-elimination format.
The Cardinal will battle its South African opponents from the Buckshire lane on the storied Thames River in first-round action. Stanford is one of six boats in the Temple Challenge Cup's Field of 32, being joined by Cornell, Grand Valley State, Harvard, Trinity College, and Williams College. Frosh coach Pete Giese is optimistic about the Cardinal's strength as they take to the lane for Wednesday's race.
'The guys are ready to race and are excited to enter the world of international competition,' said Giese. 'Our goal is to race another day.'
This week's competition at Henley will be the boat's first action since claiming a seventh-place national finish at the IRA Regatta on June 7.
The winner of Wednesday's race will advance to the second round to battle the winner of the Bath University-Fitzwilliam College race.
